Understanding the U-Skin ™ technology

Understanding the U-Skin™ technology

U-Skin™ is a cutting-edge in vitro technology designed to accurately test and substantiate the efficacy of makeup and skincare products.

By simulating human sweat, sebum, lacrimal fluid, and saliva excretion, U-Skin™ allows for precise and rapid evaluation of a product’s
performance in just two hours, ensuring faster time-to-market and enhanced formulation confidence.

Key Benefits of U-Skin™

  • Sweat AND sebum simulation:: U-Skin™ utilizes a synthetic polymeric skin with human-like pore density to replicate real skin conditions, simulating sweat, sebum, and even lacrimal and saliva fluids for testing products like lipsticks.
  • Accurate results in 2 hours: U-Skin™ delivers fast and reliable data, reducing the need for lengthy in vivo testing and accelerating product development.
  • Product characterization and marketing claims: U-Skin™ helps evaluate the sebo-resistance, and sweat-resistance of makeup products, ensuring superior long-lasting and mattifying effects.
  • Illustrative, objective and quantifiable data: With U-Skin™, advanced imaging systems measure color and brightness variations, providing objective data to support cosmetic claims such as “long-lasting” and “mattifying.”

A technology correlated to in vivo

A technology correlated to in vivo

U-Skin™ combines a microfluidic system with a synthetic skin model, allowing controlled fluidic flow through pores to test product interactions with sweat and, sebum. This innovative setup predicts in vivo results, offering a reliable correlation between laboratory testing and real-world application.

Over the many tests that were conducted, Microfactory proved the in vivo / in vitro correlation of U-Skin™ with the CIDP, with regard to color variation for three foundations
